Description
Ribes nigrum ‘Ben Nevis’ is an upright tall growing deciduous shrub that yields abundant crops of blackcurrant. This variety has a vigorous growing nature, with bright green lobed deciduous leaves that brighten up this bush all through summer. The berries produced by this variety develop during late summer and are usually ready to harvest by autumn. The fruits have a tart flavour, and can be eaten straight from the branch, they are often used in making juices, jams and desserts. As this plant has an upright habit, it takes up very little space in the garden, and due to it’s hardy nature it can tolerate colder climates and most soil conditions, preferring sunny or partially shaded areas, although it is self-pollinating you can plant in groups for a higher yield.
