Description

The gloxinia that’s not a gloxinia, Incarvillea delavayi is often called Hardy Gloxinia or Garden Gloxinia anyway. Not that its name really matters. What does matter is the fact that this plant is a nice cheerful addition to the summer garden, producing large numbers of trumpet shaped bright pink flowers with hearts of gold. The flowers, which appear in clusters at the top of branchless stems, rise above dark green feathery foliage!

Incarvillea delavayi will grow to about half a metre (or nearly two feet) in height, and do well provided it’s planted in very well-drained soil, and preferably gets a little protection when the sun is at its hottest. Possible sites for this pretty plant are rockeries, raised beds or containers. It makes a good cut flower.

Gracy knows: The most beautiful mole repellent!
“Incarvillea delavayi is a very effective mole repellent, since moles do not like the smell of its roots!”
