Description
Actinidia arguta ‘Issai’ is a kiwi producing deciduous climbing shrub, the noticeably smaller fruits produced by this variety have interesting characteristics, unlike their better known hairier cousins they are completely smooth, and the skin is edible. Kiwis are produced in abundance and many have managed to produce up to 1000 fruit every year, with the ideal harvesting time being between late August and end of October. As these plants are native to Siberia they are extremely hardy, and they are easy to grow, even in the UK climate. They are also self-fertilising and boast a considerble resistance to pests and diseases, for ideal growing conditions, plant in a spot that gets a lot of sunlight with a trellis or pergola for them to climb.
