Description
Thyme Rasta is one of many lemon thyme plants and boasts aromatic leaves with a distinct citrussy scent. The fragrance lingers in the air whenever these outdoor plants are brushed past, making them ideal for a border or a large plant pot on the patio, where the scent is appreciated as people walk past.
These are low-growing, mound-forming herb plants with tiny rich green leaves that remain in place throughout the year. In summer, small lilac-pink flowers appear on the Rasta Thyme plant. These blooms are long lasting and are irresistible to bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.
Thyme Rasta is also valued for its culinary properties. Fresh or dried thyme is a popular herb for flavouring stews, pies and stuffing dishes and complements chicken and fish well. It is also used to make herbal teas that act as a decongestant.
Rasta thyme are easy garden plants to look after, demanding very little maintenance to thrive. It is drought-tolerant once established, so only needs watering during long dry periods. This thyme herb plant grows best in poor, well-draining soil and doesn’t tolerate waterlogging well. Prune hard after flowering to maintain the plant’s size and shape.
