Description

Malus ‘Direktor’ Moerland is a small, upright deciduous tree that forms a beautiful round crown of dense bushy foliage. It is a better version of the popular Malus ‘Profusion’ with better disease resistance. This crab apple tree will enrich your garden from April until October with its colourful foliage, stunning wine red flowers and small fruits. Here you have a combination of decorative foliage, flowers and fruits in one package!

The oval leaves of Malus Direcktor that grow 6-8 cm in length emerge in shiny red to copper and later turn dark green. In autumn, this dramatic foliage will again change its colour and turn dark red. In April-May, the tree will produce bright red/wine-rose colour flowers in abundance. The fun will be prolonged with the round, fleshy dark red fruits that usually ripen in September-October.

These tough trees can thrive in almost any moderate to high, moist and fertile soil. Plant your Malus Direcktor in well-drained fertile soil in full sun or partial shady location. Avoid full shade and dry soil areas as the tree may struggle growing there.

This crab apple tree is fully hardy in winter and can deal with some water logging. Choose a sheltered location to protect the tree from wind during its flowering a layer of rotted compost when planting a young tree.

Since Malus Direcktor tree does not grow too tall, it is suitable for a variety of gardens such as city gardens and other small to large gardens. The spectacular view of this tree in summer and autumn will be admired by the bees, birds and butterflies.
