Herbs – Sweet Marjoram, Origanum Majorana

Description

Origanum Majorana is a popular herb garden plant closely related to oregano. It boasts slightly hairy, oval shaped, grey-green leaves. In summer, tall upright stems blossom small tubular, knot-shaped flowers. The blooms are usually white but can occasionally come out pink, and are a magnet for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.

Commonly known as Sweet Marjoram, this herb is often added to the cooking pot to flavour meat, poultry, tomato, and pasta dishes. It is a staple of Greek and Italian cuisines and works well in salads and dressings.

These outdoor plants are half-hardy in the UK and are often grown as annuals. However, Sweet Marjoram can be brought inside as a house plant. Placed on a kitchen windowsill the indoor plant produces a year-round herb supply. These are ideal herbs plants for growing in a large plant pot or herb planter but also grow well in beds and borders.
