Description
Escallonias are a group of mainly evergreen shrubs but with some semi-evergreen or deciduous. Escallonias are grown for their shiny leaves and for their profuse, tubular, chalice-shaped or saucer-shaped five petalled flowers. They flower freely over a long period, mainly in the summer. They can be grown in shrubberies, against a warm wall or as a hedge and they thrive near coasts. They flourish in mild areas, but, although frost hardy, are best protected from strong or cold winds. Plant in full sun in a fertile, well-drained Apple Blossom is a first class evergreen hybrid with a dense, compact growing habit with apple-blossom pink flowers, about 12mm wide, carried in profusion from mid-summer. Glossy, dark green foliage up to 5cm (2ins) long.
