Description
Strongly fragrant clusters of tiny white to pink flowers are born from late spring to fall on this large shrub or small tree. Called Camphir in the bible and was a source for the orange-red dye called Henna. Dried leaves were powdered and made into a paste to make the dye. Tropical evergreen perennial tree to 30 feet, with rigid stems and leaves opposite, oval shaped, about an inch long. It is the leaves that yield the dye known as henna, mixed with various mordants to produce the different colours for the hair.
