Description
Prickly, dense, evergreen, fast growing hedge with small, slender, shiny, deep green, rigid leaves, blue-grey beneath. It produces masses of small, showy, bright, golden-yellow, scented flowers on graceful arching branches from April to May, followed by edible blue barberries in the autumn which are attractive to wildlife, or can be used for barberry jelly. Occasional flushes of flowers in the autumn in mild weather. The flowers are nectar and pollen rich so are attractive to bees and other pollinating insects. Shade tolerant. Makes an attractive, graceful free standing shrub.
