Description
Parsnips prefer deep, stone-free soil enriched with well-rotted manure for a previous crop.
Sow seeds directly outdoors from April to June, 1-2 cm deep, in rows spaced 30cm apart.
Germination is weather-dependent and can take up to 3 weeks. If little emerges, re-sow immediately.
Thin seedlings to 15cm apart when large enough, thinnings dont transplant well.
Roots are ready to harvest when the tops begin to die down.
Harvest as required, roots will remain in the ground until late winter unless the soil becomes heavily waterlogged.
