Description
Gourds are easier to classify because they are defined as hard-shelled, durable fruit, grown principally for ornament, utensils and general interest. The fruit remains green in its unripened state and colours once it reaches maturity. These gourds are often seen in large floral arrangements and fruit displays to give them an item of added interest. Despite being used as an ornament, this gourd can also be used as a utensil.
As its name implies, the fruits of Small Spoon gourds are fairly small, reaching five to six inch long. Their narrow, curved necks expand out to two to three inches at the blossom end, are bi-coloured orange and green, and dry to the typical pale tan colour. Its flowers are yellow and not white like most gourds.
