For outdoor sowingWhen March to May or September to October. Where In a prepared seed bed in flowering position. How Sow thinly in rows 30cm apart. Cover lightly with 0.5cm of fine soil. Firm gently and keep moist. Care When large enough thin to 25cm apart. Prefers an open, sunny position. Flowers June to August, the following year. For indoor sowingWhen March to May. Where In a tray of seed compost. How Sow thinly, cover with a fine layer of compost. Firm gently and keep moist. Seedlings appear 14-42 days. Care When large enough transplant 5cm apart in trays. Gradually acclimatise plants to outside conditions from late May onwards (avoid frosts). Transplant 25cm apart in flowering position. Keep moist and weed free. Flowers June to August, the following year.
The pretty white flowers with yellow centres, are a classic meadow flower, now often seen on roadside verges. Delightful in a sunny border or ‘wild’ area.
