Is it a Chrysanthemum? An Echinacea? An Anemone? No, it’s Dahlia ‘Fenna Baaij’! With its particularly pronounced central powderpuff, this anemone-flowered dahlia is certain to give even the most experienced gardeners pause for thought. Soft, lilac pink and dusted with gold at the centre, the sumptuous flowers of Dahlia ‘Fenna Baaij’ are ideal for adding texture and summer-long interest to borders and containers. We love seeing them with swaying, buff-coloured grasses such as pennisetum and miscanthus, with a few tall, airy dierama (angel’s fishing rod) nodding above. Perfection!

‘Fenna Baaij’ dahlias are half-hardy, meaning they will need some form of protection from the cold and wet. If you have heavy soil or live somewhere prone to very cold winters, your best bet is to lift and store the tubers in a greenhouse or shed. If you garden on light, well-draining soil, or are in a milder area, you will get away with leaving Dahlia ‘Fenna Baaij’ in the ground with a thick layer of mulch.
