This is a very splendid and handsome plant; very large, over eight feet high and five feet wide, with large leaves and bearing loose sprays of beautiful, red, funnel-shaped flowers. This half hardy annual is from the tabacum species in the Nicotiana genus. Don’t place too much reliance on these names! They are really just names of convenience used by our supplier (and supplier’s supplier) to identify the plant in question. But don’t let that worry you! The strong smell of Nicotiana tabacum protects brassicas against the large cabbage white butterfly and prevents them from laying their eggs all over your brassica leaves.
