Description

Euphorbia Characias Black Pearl, as the name suggests, is an evergreen and architectural herbaceous perennial that produces mysterious dark centred flowers like pearls. This Mediterranean Spurge will keep your garden perky throughout the year. It is fully hardy and can withstand long periods of heat and drought. Its dramatic chartreuse flowers have a long blooming period. This excellent structural plant looks great in borders and mixed perennial beds.

The Mediterranean Spurge, also known as the Milkweed, grows upright, producing cup-shaped flowers called Cyathia. These flowers are greenish-yellow or lime with a reddish-brown eye in the centre that is full of sweet nectar. The upright stems bear narrow dark grey-green leaves arranged in a perfect setup. The flowers are borne on thick succulent branches of Black Pearl.

Black Pearl Spurge will thrive in full sunlight or partial shade, planted in a well-drained dry to average moisture soil. It is a drought tolerant plant and can survive even severe dry conditions. It stores water in the form of a sap in its tall flowers bearing stems. The sap is toxic in nature, thus use of gloves in advised while handling the plant.

Black Pearl is a low maintenance plant that looks great all year long. It is easy to grow and requires simple pruning annually. Simply cut back each stem to the base after the flowering period to keep the plant looking fresh and to encourage new growth.
