Description
Mr Fothergill’s Cowslip Seeds, Early flowering grassland treasure. Can be found growing wild inmeadows, pastures and woodland, making it ideal forgrassy areas, banks and border edging.
Sow outdoors, thinly on the surface of a small tray of pre-watered compost. Place in a cold frame or outside but protect trays from mice and birds with polythene or glass. Do not let the surface of the compost dry out. Germination may be erratic and may not occur until seeds have been subjected to a period of cold temperatures. Transplant individually when large enough to handle to 8cm pots. (Always handle by a leaf, never by the stem.) Grow on to allow plants to develop before planting out, spacing 15cm apart.
• A hardy perennial, flowers the year after sowing
• Rare in the wild, they are traditionally called Paigles
• Scented, for patio pots, naturalising and border edging
Sow time: Feb-Apr, Sep-Nov
Flowering/Harvesting time: Mar-May
