Description
Thyme lemon variegated is a compact evergreen perennial thyme plant with tiny, narrowly-ovate green leaves variegated in cream. The foliage is highly aromatic, releasing a citrussy scent whenever the lemon thyme plant is brushed past. Small lilac-pink flowers appear in summer and last all season. These are a magnet for pollinators, attracting bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects to the garden.
Lemon thyme is a popular culinary herb that is bursting with antioxidants. It adds flavour to stews, casseroles, chutneys and stuffings as well as complementing fish and chicken dishes. It is an excellent addition to a bouquet-garni and is often used to make herbal tea.
Lemon variegated thyme plants are easy to grow. Once established, these outdoor herb plants are drought tolerant and only need to be watered during long dry spells. Thyme is an excellent choice for growing in a large plant pot or herb garden, but also works well as ground cover in rockeries and gravel gardens.
