Description
Ribes uva-crispa ‘Hinnonmaki Green’ is a deciduous upright bushy shrub that produces an abundance of green gooseberries in late summer. The deciduous foliage of this variety consists of small shallow lobed leaves with a light green colour, these are sometimes accompanied with tubular or bell shaped flowers. A large crop of gooseberries forms during summer and is ready to be harvested by late July, these yellow-green berries have terrific flavour and can be used to make jams or be cooked into tarts and desserts. ‘Hinnonmaki’ originated from Finland and due to this have become extremely hardy and disease resistant, they prefer spots with either full sun or partial shade and grow best in a well-drained, slightly acidic soil. These bushes are self-pollinating but planting in groups will provide a higher yield of fruit.
