Description

Malus domestica Braeburn is a deciduous apple tree. It was originally bred in New Zealand in the 1950s. It grows well in gardens in the UK, producing heavy fruit crops.

In Spring, pale green leaves fill the branches quickly followed by a pink blossom carrying five petals each. The pink buds open into paler star shapes with golden stamens. The pink petals ripen into tiny firm apples that gradually swell over the Summer. In late October to November, when the apples appear an equal amount of green and red, they are ready to harvest.

Apples should be pruned every year to get the best crop.

The Royal Horticultural Society has given Apple Braeburn the ‘Perfect for Pollinators’ badge due to the large volume of pollinating insects it attracts because of its fragrant blossom.

MM106 (Semi Dwarfing) are suitable for all forms except standards. The apple trees are tolerant to various soils like grass orchards and poor soils. Widely used rootstock, but not for small gardens. This tree will begin fruiting after three or four years with a ultimate height of between 3-4m.

M26 (Dwarfing) are good for spindlebush, espalier and ideal for containers. Typically starts fruiting after two or three years with an ultimate height of between 2.4-3m.
