Description
Mr Fothergill’s Yellow Rattle Seeds, A traditional signal to hay-makers. Mainly seen growing wild on meadows and verges. Semi-parasitic, helps reduce competition from grasses, ideal for a wildflower meadow.
Sow outdoors where they are to flower, thinly, directly onto a grassy area which has been watered and roughly raked to expose some soil. Seedlings usually appear in 14–28 days. No thinning is necessary if sown thinly. Water well until plants are established. Autumn sowings often germinate best and will flower the following year, often earlier than spring sowings.
• Hardy annual, it can be sown where it is to flower
• The seed pod’s rattle signalled time to gather hay
• Reduces grasses by feeding on their roots
Sow time: Mar-May, Sep-Oct
Flowering/Harvesting time: Jun-Aug
