Description
Hazel nuts are deciduous and self-fertile but better pollination is achieved if two different varieties are planted. Hazel nuts are rich in protein and unsaturated fat. Any variety, or mixed varieties, make a fruitful, attractive hedge planted 60-90cm (2-3ft) apart, especially when festooned with attracrive catkins in spring. Hazel grows happily in sun or shade. For the native Common Hazel see the hedging section.
