Description
Known commonly as male fern, the Dryopteris filix-mas is a deciduous, robust, hardy fern. In Spring, this fern produces an upright tuft of lance shaped, mid-green fronds. The leaves then turn a copper colour in early Autumn, before dying back. This plant is well suited as a border plant or in a shaded cottage garden.
Prefers partial or full shade. Plant in a moist, humus rich soil. Water regularly to prevent the soil from drying out.
