Description
If you’re after easy to grow spring-flowering bulbs that return stronger every year, and bring a real sense of gentle beauty to your garden, Puschkinia libanotica should be top of your list.
Sometimes called ‘striped squill’, it’s an absolute wonder for early pollinators, flowering just as the garden shakes off winter. The blooms are powdery blue with a neat darker stripe that runs down the middle of each petal, a detail you’ll really appreciate up close. But plant them in groups and you’ll get a cloud of colour.
These bulbs grow to around 10cm tall, but they’re incredibly versatile. They’re ideal for naturalising, so they’ll self-seed and clump up year after year. Tuck them into a lawn, under a tree, along a border, or in a shallow container, anywhere you want early interest and colour.
They cope brilliantly with our British winters and don’t require any special treatment. Just plant them in autumn into well-drained soil and forget about them until early spring, when up they pop with no prompting.
Supplied as a set of 60 bulbs, size 5/6.
