When February to March.
Where In trays of seed compost.
How Sow thinly. Cover with a fine layer of compost. Firm gently and keep moist. Cover tray with glass, polythene or propagator lid. Keep at 15-20°C.
Care Remove cover when seedlings appear in 14-28 days. When large enough, transplant 5cm apart in trays. Gradually acclimatise plants to outside conditions from late May onwards (avoid frosts). Transplant 15cm apart in flowering position.
Flowers October to July, often longer. Flowering may stop in the harshest winter weather.
For outdoor sowing
When April to July.
Where In containers or a prepared seed bed in flowering position.
How Sow thinly into large pots or in rows 20cm apart. Cover lightly with fine soil. Firm gently and keep moist.
Care When large enough thin to 15cm apart.
Flowers October to July, often longer. Grow in containers, then after flowering transplant to the garden.
