Description
Large, handsome, vigorous, spreading, deciduous tree with conspicuous clusters of red-tinged- yellow flowers on bare stems in April, followed by outstanding deeply-lobed leaves opening bright red turning rich dark crimson then red, brown and orange in autumn. Dense foliage makes it excellent for is good for wildlife as it supports caterpillars, aphids and their predators e.g. ladybirds, hoverflies and birds. Many moths feed on the leaves and the flowers provide nectar for bees, and small mammals eat the seeds.
