Description
The tallest specimen of the species to have graced our collection, the tall hairy stems of this Cleistocactus strausii also have an abundance of bold pink blooms.
Native to arid areas of Bolivia, Cleistocactus strausii is commonly known as the silver torch cactus. Its columnar stems can reach around 3 metres tall, covered in masses of dense white hairs in between which thick yellow spines grow. Mature cacti produce long tubular flowers during the growing season. Blooms emerge in a deep pink and red hues, with a long protruding yellow stamen.
WATERING
In summer water thoroughly only when 100% of the soil has dried out. A/W allow soil to dry 100% – water sparingly (every two months). In spring gradually increase watering – depending on temperature and light exposure.
LIGHT REQUIREMENTS
Full sun.
REPOTTING
Repot every 2-3 years using fresh cacti & succulent compost.
FEED
Use a cactus feed from March – November every other time you water.
