Description
Breathe life into tired borders, jazz up a gravel garden or simply try growing something new, with Imperata ‘Red Baron’. An ornamental grass with blazing red foliage that intensifies as the season rolls on, turning any planting scheme into a dramatic spectacle.
Its upright blades are green at the base and build skywards to deep crimson tips, and that fiery display gets even better in full sun. Between June and August, it throws up feathery, silver flower plumes for extra texture. Whether you plant it in a smart pot, a minimalist garden, or among other perennials, it always delivers a wow moment.
Growing in full sun will give the best colouring, although it will be fine in partial shade. As a deciduous grass, it will die back in winter and should be cut back to ground level in February, but don’t worry, you’ll see brand new shoots in March, heralding the arrival of spring and a new season of amazing colour!
Supplied as three established plants in 9cm pots, ready to plant out, growing to a height of 50cm and spread of 30cm.
