Description
Sow the seeds indoors at any time of year.
Scarify the seed coat gently using sandpaper.
Soak the seeds in warm water for 24 hours, then drain.
Plant the seeds about 4mm deep in moist compost.
Keep in a heated propagator at a contant temperature of 26c.
Germination is slow and unpredictable, taking anywhere from 1 to 12 months.
When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant into individual pots.
Harden off the plants gradually before moving them outdoors after the last frost.
Provide support such as a trellis or fence in a sunny, sheltered spot.
Grow in containers for the first season so they can be brought under cool glass for winter.
After the first season, then move to their final position the following year.
