Description
Peniocereus serpentinus, commonly known as ‘Snake Cactus’, originates from the tropical areas of Southern Mexico. A popular columnar cactus which sometimes grows snaking across the floor. The crested form of Peniocereus serpentinus f. cristata is a nursery produced cultivar, with contorted stems that weave around each other. Bristly, dark-brown spines envelop these sculptural forms.
WATERING
Water thoroughly and regularly when soil is 100% dry during the spring/summer months. Refrain from watering during the winter months.
LIGHT REQUIREMENTS
Full sun.
FEED
Use a cactus fertiliser 3 times between March – November.
REPOTTING
This species can live in the same pot for several years. Repotting may only be necessary once every 2-3 years (or longer), once roots begin to protrude out of the drainage holes. Use a well draining cactus compost, adding extra drainage medium such as perlite, pumice or grit.
