Begonia maculata ‘Wightii Black Forest’

Description

This luscious variety of Begonia maculata Wightii ‘Black Forest’ has much deeper green, almost black, leaves in comparison to the classic polka dot Begonia. The bright, silver polka dots glow against the dark, glossy surface, in contrast with the burgundy red undersides peeking through. The classic Begonia maculata is native to the rainforests of Brazil, meaning these ever so elegant plants require plenty of warmth and humidity.

WATERING

In S/S water when 20% of the top soil has dried out. In A/W allow top soil to dry out 50%. These plants love high humidity, but avoid misting directly on the leaves too much. Instead, keep the plant on/near a tray of pebbles with water.

LIGHT REQUIREMENTS

Bright, indirect.

FEED

Use a house plant fertiliser every month between April – September.

REPOTTING

Repot every 2-3 years when roots begin to protrude out of the drainage holes. Use a well draining house plant potting mix, with added draining medium like perlite. Begonias grow best in slightly snug pots.
