Giant Kohl superschmelz can grow to a massive 8 kg in weight and 25 cm in circumference, but it bolts slowly. The stem swells become the crisp, juicy vegetable, which has a texture very similar to water chestnut, when it is just above ground. It tastes something like a turnip, although not quite as strong.
Growing instructions:
Sow the Giant Kohl Rabi seeds from April to May. Thinly sow seeds into trays (2cm deep). Germination usually takes 10-14 days and once the seedlings have germinated and have grown 10-15cm tall, transplant the seeds or spread the plants 30-50cm apart. Water plants thoroughly after planting especially during warm summer days. Harvest from July through to November.
