This exotic evergreen tree maintains a deep red hue in its leaves. There is a variety which is also green in color. It is a remarkable plant to enjoy as an accent piece in your garden. The flowers bloom along a long stalk and have a very pleasant odor which attracts birds and butterflies.

The Cordyline “Red Star” will grow rapidly in warmer conditions and climates. However, in a cooler climate, this subtropical species will most likely stay within a meter height by a meter spread.

Some people start with this variety in a pot. However, the growth will most likely continue and make it necessary to transfer to a protected area of your garden.

It prefers full sun, but can tolerate partial shade, although this may diminish its stunning deep-red color. It is a hardy variety which can adapt to most areas, except for extreme low temperatures. With that being said, providing protection during the winter months and then removing dead leaves after winter and the Cordyline “Red Star” will most likely spring back to life in the springtime.
