Ludisia discolor ‘Jewel Orchid’

Description

Known as the ‘Jewel Orchid,’ Ludisia discolor is a rewarding yet easy-to-care-for houseplant. Tolerant of lower light and fond of humidity, its deep purple leaves are flecked with pink stripes and are velvety in texture. Given the right conditions, small white flowers will appear amongst the foliage, making this plant a delight for a shadier corner.

WATERING

Allow the top 30-40% soil to dry out before watering throughout the year.

LIGHT REQUIREMENTS

Indirect but bright.

FEED

Use a nitrogen heavy fertiliser through spring and a potassium fertiliser in late summer.

REPOTTING

Repot when the plant crowds the pot, into a free-draining substrate (such as houseplant compost and orchid bark).
