Description
An epiphyte from the Bromeliaceae family, the Vriesea splendens is also known as the flaming sword and it’s easy to see why. Apart from its architectural stature, the vivid colouring of Vriesea splendens is what also catches the eye – patterned foliage with a bright red inflorescence that bursts out of the centre of the rosette.
WATERING
In S/S water when 20% of the top soil has dried out. In A/W allow top soil to dry out 50%. Water in rosette once a week.
LIGHT REQUIREMENTS
Bright, indirect.
FEED
Use a balanced house plant fertiliser once a month between May – September.
REPOTTING
Repot when the mother plant has produced sizeable pups at the base of the plant, divide pups and plant them separately into well draining house plant compost. Repot and divide in warmer months.
