Description
Wake up your dull spring garden with Scilla siberica. This blue wonder is one of the most reliable, low-maintenance bulbs you can grow, and it’s absolutely brimming with charm.
From March, it bursts into life with intense blue, bell-shaped flowers that sparkle in the early sun. It’s a compact bulb, reaching just 10 to 20cm tall, but when you plant it in groups, the effect is stunning. These bulbs naturalise brilliantly, so once planted, they’ll return each year and gradually multiply, forming bright blue carpets of colour.
They’re ideal for tucking into grassy areas, under deciduous trees, along border edges or in containers. Because they flower so early, they often bloom before trees leaf out, making the most of that early spring light. And once they’re done, the foliage disappears quickly, letting other plants take over.
Pollinators love them, especially early bees in need of food after winter.
Completely winter hardy and incredibly tough, you don’t even need to lift or divide them. In fact, they’re happiest when just left alone. Just plant them into well-drained soil in autumn, and they’ll do the rest.
Supplied as a set of 40 bulbs, size 6/7.
