A glossy-leaved, decorative tree that gets its name from its leaves’ similarity to the bay tree.

Growth and size
Mature height: 10-15m.
Growth rate: 60cm per year.
Supplied as 20-50cm cell-grown saplings.
Can be planted all year round with proper care.

Value to wildlife
Food plant for moth caterpillars, including Ectoedemia intimella.
Early source of nectar and pollen for bees and other insects.

Soil and conditions
Prefers damp soil, such as those beside streams and rivers.
