Description
Probably the most widely grown pear throughout the world. Flesh pale green ripening to golden yellow. Regular cropper, good flavour, sweet and strong, very juicy. Pick when green a few days before ripening. Very hardy and reliable, but avoid planting in very wet areas. Found in a garden in Aldermaston, Berkshire in 1760s. In 1797 it was taken to the United States and renamed there as Bartlett where it is still one of the most important pears.
