Description
A smaller variety of the highly popular Acers, the ‘Griseum’ is a very colourful option boasting bright autumn foliage colours and very distinctive bark which is normally a deep chestnut-brown colour before beginning to peel in tight, overlapping, paper-thin curls of bark which reveal the fresh, striking cinnamon-red wood beneath. The leaves consist of 3 small, ovate leaflets which are grey-green in Spring and Summer, turning to a blazing orange and red in the Autumn months. The foliage is joined by clusters of small, yellow flowers in the Spring months.
Plant in moist, well-drained soil and keep in full or partial sun. Prefers clay soils. Quite susceptible to drought and dryness, so be sure to water regularly. A slow grower and low maintenance plant besides.
