Adenium obesum

Description

Both bizarre and beautiful, Adenium obesum is a succulent shrub native to semi-arid areas of Africa and the Arabian peninsula. This plant grows thick roots with a swollen stem leading to a small tuft of foliage. When this plant becomes more mature it’ll produce a summer bloom of large pink flowers, giving Adenium obesum its common name, the desert rose. May shed its leaves in winter.

WATERING

Water when soil is dry 100%. Water lightly (if at all) during winter months.

LIGHT REQUIREMENTS

Full sun.

FEED

Use a cactus fertiliser 3 times between March – November.

REPOTTING

It can stay in the same pot for a number of years as it is such a slow growing plant. If it does ever become too small for the pot it is in, repot into one size up and use a well draining cactus compost, adding extra drainage such as perlite, pumice or grit.
