Description
Commonly known as ‘frizzle sizzle’, this is one of our favourites. Slim leaves emerge from a small bulb, then curve at the tips to form a tense spiral. To protect itself from the harsh summer heat, the leaves may dry up and wither away but they will grow back again in autumn. These delicate geophytes are sensitive to light and heat, and prefer cool and dry conditions with plenty of sun. Their leaves are likely to straighten out if they’re getting too warm.
WATERING
Water thoroughly and regularly when soil is 100% dry during the spring/summer months. Refrain from watering during the winter months.
LIGHT REQUIREMENTS
Full sun.
FEED
Use a cactus fertiliser 3 times between March – November.
REPOTTING
This species can live in the same pot for several years. Repotting may only be necessary once every 2-3 years (or longer), once roots begin to protrude out of the drainage holes. Use a well draining cactus compost, adding extra drainage medium such as perlite, pumice or grit.
