Description
Fast growing, long-lived, slender, suckering, deciduous native tree with long, pointed sharp buds which open to coppery-green, long-stemmed, rounded leaves with wave-shaped teeth, which turn grey-green, then butter-yellow in autumn. Leaves flutter in the slightest breeze so the tree is often heard before being seen. Large male and female drooping catkins in early spring. Aspen supports a large number of insects and butterfly species. Any soil, prefers moist conditions, but will grow on poor soils.
