Description
Knows as ‘Japanese Painted Fern’ Athyrium metallicum is an ornamental fern with deciduous foliage, this elegant shrub forms a rosette of arching, lance-shaped fronds. The fronds of this plant develop a striking silvery-grey colour with an almost metallic shade to them, accompanied by green highlights with subtle burgundy veination. These Athyrium spread slowly, and are best suited to partial or fully shaded areas, a great choice for shady beds, borders or for planting under other shrubs. They are also extremely hardy and require very little maintenance, they will thrive in most types of soil provided it is well drained.
