Begonia masoniana ‘River’

Description

Originating from southern China and northern Vietnam, these rare beauties produce asymmetrical leaves, entirely covered in tiny hairs. This particular cultivar differs from the usual ‘Iron Cross’ Begonia, emerging in a deep green colour all over. Its tiny hairs change colour in different light, at times appearing bright pink giving the whole plant a red-ish hue.

WATERING

In S/S water when 20% of the top soil has dried out. In A/W allow top soil to dry out 50%. These plants require high humidity, but avoid misting directly on the leaves too much. Instead, keep the plant on/near a tray of pebbles with water.

LIGHT REQUIREMENTS

Bright, indirect.

FEED

Use a house plant fertiliser every month between April – September.

REPOTTING

Repot every 2-3 years when roots begin to protrude out of the drainage holes. Use a well draining house plant potting mix, with added draining medium like perlite. Begonias grow best in slightly snug pots.
