Description
Attractive, native, deciduous tree which bears masses of up to thirteen centimetre (5 inch) long spikes of strongly almond-scented white flowers 1cm (0.5 inch) wide in May. These are followed by bitter black fruits which birds love, hence the name Bird Cherry. Any well drained soil, and will even thrive on quite poor soil. Finely toothed leaves turn orange/yellow in autumn.
