Description
Start the seeds indoors from February-April.
Sow the seeds thinly on the surface of moist seed compost.
Dont cover as light aids germination,
Place in a heated propagator at 18-21c until germination occurs.
Germination can be erratic and slow but should occur within 21-35 days.
Once seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into individual pots.
Grow on in bright light, keeping the compost just moist.
Gradually acclimatise the plants to outdoor conditions before planting out.
Plant out after the risk of frost has passed into a sunny, well-drained site.
Space plants about 90-120cm apart, as these are large, clump-forming grasses.
Water regularly during establishment, but once established, Pampas Grass is drought-tolerant.
Cut back old foliage in late winter or early spring to encourage fresh growth.
Handle with care, as the leaves have sharp edges that can cause cuts.
