Description
An erect deciduous tree which becomes wide spreading with age. 2-2.5cm (1 inch) pink budded single white flowers appear in profusion in May which attract pollinating insects. These are followed by large conical yellow crab apples which are flushed red. As these are so prolific the tree is a picture of colour in autumn especially as foliage turns yellow and orange. The fruit is considered to be one of the best for jelly and wine making and also provides good food for birds. It is self-fertile and is an excellent pollinator for fruiting apples due to its long flowering period.
