Description
This peculiar slow-growing caudiciform succulent originates from the rocky and arid areas of southern Africa. The huge, swollen bottle-shaped stems of Cyphostemma juttae can grow up to 2 metres tall while growing around a metre wide, providing the plant with water storage over long periods of drought. The yellow-green trunk has a peeling, papery bark, with few branches which produce leathery, pale green deeply-lobed leaves when juvenile. Leaves become trifoliate when mature. As a deciduous plant, foliage will die back in late autumn and winter but new growth will appear in spring.
