Description
Delphinium ‘Blue Bird’ is a classic cottage garden showstopper for height, drama and a proper summer spectacle! Its tall, upright spires carry masses of rich blue flowers with pale centres, rising above fresh green foliage to create a bold vertical display from late spring into late summer.
Planted towards the back of a border, it draws the eye upwards and gives planting schemes that generous, romantic, professionally planned look.
It can reach around 1.5m to 2m tall in good conditions, so staking is recommended, especially in breezy garden conditions. The flowers are also excellent for cutting, to bring that beautiful border colour indoors for vases and arrangements.
Pollinators love delphiniums too, so ‘Blue Bird’ helps add life and movement as well as colour. Plant in a sunny, sheltered position, in fertile, well-drained soil, and keep watered during dry spells while it establishes. Cut back faded flower spikes after the first flush to encourage further growth.
Supplied as an established plant in a 9cm pot, ready to plant.
