Description
A tufted, semi-evergreen hardy fern, known commonly as alpine wood fern. A Dryopteris wallichianas fronds appear in spring as a vibrant yellow-green before maturing to a forest green. The colour of the pinnae is contrasted with the brown-black stem and midrib of the fronds.
Plant in a moist, well drained, humus rich soil. Thrives best in partial shade or full shade. Best suited in a shaded border or bed, or in a cottage garden.
