Description
Commonly known as Umbrella Bamboo, Fargesia Robusta Pingwu is a pretty bamboo that is perfect for adding ornamental interest to any outdoor area. It can be planted in the ground to create a tropical looking screen or alternatively in containers or borders for a striking individual effect in smaller gardens.
The attractive culms bloom new shoots in early spring. These evolve from yellow to a beautiful rusty red hue before turning bright green in early summer. As the season progresses, the leaves start to peel away and change to white, creating an eye-catching checkerboard effect up and down the stems. New branches and leaves appear at the top of the canes during Autumn, while the bottom half remains bare.
Fargesia Robusta Pingwu is an evergreen plant and, as such, provides colour and interest throughout the winter months. The top half of the plant will keep its dense foliage even through the harshest of winters.
Originating in the Sichuan region of China, this variety of bamboo is a popular and easy way to add a tropical touch to your garden. Once established it requires very little maintenance and its delicate feathery leaves provide year round interest. This tall clump forming bamboo is non-invasive, meaning it won’t spread further than you want it to.
